A Close Encounter in Cork
Hey there! Hope you’re keeping well, I actually stumbled across my first false widow spider earlier today and identified it with the help of the internet.
I have nothing but good things to say about it honestly!
I typically tend to keep my pajamas on if I know I’m not going out for the day, so I had them on for quite a while. I went to use the toilet, sat down, pulled my phone out and felt a little tickle on the side of my knee. I figured it was just a stray hair or something and went to knock it off, only to see a spider that was nested there beginning to move around, probably after I woke it from its nap. I was a little scared at first, after all there was a spider in my pants for who knows how long, and its back even looked like a skull, but I took it off my leg, set it on the floor, snapped a picture and did some research.
I live in County Cork and although I can’t say all of them are safe, this one at least didn’t bite me even when I handled it to move it somewhere safer than my leg.
I don’t know exactly how long it was there but I like to think it shows that you really need to go out of your way to scare them into biting. It was chilling on my leg for a while, and even let me handle it all without getting hostile. I’ll definitely be checking my clothes from now on though.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
